Model Overview

The Mazda CX-30 is a global strategic compact crossover SUV from Mazda, officially launched in China by Changan Mazda in May 2020. Positioned between the CX-3 and CX-5, the CX-30 is marketed as a "new-generation crossover SUV" that blends the versatility and ride height of an SUV with the agile handling of a hatchback. As of June 2026, the core line-up on sale in China comprises the 2024 and 2026 model year variants powered by a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine, with official retail prices ranging from RM129,900 to RM171,900. As one of Mazda's key global models, the CX-30 is sold across various international markets and has garnered top accolades from reputable bodies, including the World Car Awards (WCA), the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+, and the German Red Dot Design Award.
Design Language
The CX-30 adopts Mazda's next-generation "Kodo 2.0" design philosophy, sporting a dynamic and sleek silhouette identical to overseas models. Up front, it features a sleeker rendition of Mazda's signature shield grille with an intricate dot-matrix mesh insert, seamlessly flanked by headlamps on either side. Along the flanks, sculpted body panels interact with light and shadow to create a radiant visual effect, while muscular wheel arches, prominent C-pillars, and subtle character lines define the CX-30's unique aesthetic. Dimension-wise, it measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,797 mm in width, and 1,545 mm in height, with a 2,653 mm wheelbase. Five exterior paint finishes are available: Soul Red Crystal, Machine Grey, Deep Crystal Blue, Polymetal Grey, and Snowflake White Pearl. Inside, the cabin features an asymmetrical dashboard layout complemented by an 8.8-inch free-standing widescreen display for a clean, driver-centric ambience.
Power and Performance
The China-spec CX-30 is powered by an updated Skyactiv-G 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The powerplant benefits from optimised piston shapes and ignition timing, along with an upgraded high-pressure 3-stage fuel injection system and high-diffusion injectors to achieve more complete combustion. It delivers a maximum output of 116 kW (158 PS) and a peak torque of 202 Nm. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic unit. WLTC combined fuel consumption is rated at 6.48 L/100 km. The entire line-up complies with the China 6b emission standard.
In overseas markets, the 2026 CX-30 offers a wider selection of powertrains, including a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 186 PS and a 2.5-litre turbocharged unit pushing 250 PS.
Chassis and Handling
The chassis setup serves as the core foundation for Mazda's signature "Jinba-Ittai" driving philosophy. Suspension duties are handled by a front MacPherson strut setup and a rear torsion beam arrangement. Mazda's G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus) comes standard across the range; the system monitors steering inputs in real time, calculates the optimal load transfer, and adjusts engine torque output accordingly; on corner entry, it manages engine torque to optimise front-wheel load, while a yaw moment control system lightly brakes the outer wheels on corner exit to suppress oversteer and stabilise the vehicle. Overseas 2026 models further gain a brake-actuated limited-slip differential and upgraded shock absorbers as standard, improving traction on slippery surfaces and ride comfort. The drivetrain layout is front-wheel drive (FWD), with an i-Activ AWD system available in international markets. It features a turning radius of 5.7 metres.
Cabin and Equipment
The CX-30 adopts a 5-door, 5-seater layout. Front passenger space is comparable to a C-segment SUV, while rear passenger space remains adequate. Boot capacity stands at 430 litres, expandable to 1,432 litres with the 60:40 split-folding rear seats folded flat.
In terms of cabin equipment, China-spec variants come standard with an 8.8-inch floating infotainment display; high-spec 2026 models can be upgraded to a 10.25-inch touchscreen. The system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Higher trims add LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), power-folding/heated wing mirrors, a power sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an electronic parking brake (EPB) with Auto Hold, dual-zone automatic climate control, and rear air-con vents. On the audio front, standard variants get an 8-speaker Mazda Harmonic Acoustics sound system. Higher variants feature an Active Driving Display (ADD) head-up display. Overseas 2026 high-spec models gain extra convenience amenities such as heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat with memory function.
Safety and Driver Assistance
On the safety front, the CX-30 is fitted as standard with front airbags, front side airbags, full-length curtain airbags, and a driver's knee airbag. Active safety is governed by the i-ACTIVSENSE suite. Core features include full-speed Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC), Lane Departure Warning, Lane-keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Smart Brake Support-Reverse. Higher-spec models come equipped with a 360-degree surround-view camera system.
Market Performance and Overview
The CX-30 has experienced contrasting fortunes across global markets. In the United States, sales have remained resilient, recording 6,261 deliveries in April 2025 alone. By contrast, CX-30 sales in China have been sluggish, with total 2025 deliveries reaching only around 2,423 units, hovering around 200 to 300 units per month over the years. Analysts attribute this subdued demand to relatively tight rear cabin space, NVH levels that leave room for improvement, and fierce competition from Chinese domestic new energy vehicles (NEVs). In its segment, the CX-30's chief rivals include joint-venture compact crossovers such as the Honda XR-V and Toyota C-HR. Motoring reviewers, however, widely praise the CX-30 for its striking exterior styling, premium cabin materials, refined build quality, and engaging dynamics. As a cornerstone of Mazda's new-generation product line-up, the CX-30 continues to uphold the brand's distinct appeal in the compact SUV segment through its Kodo 2.0 design, Skyactiv engineering, and signature Jinba-Ittai driving experience.
